Rotating snakes

You may need to click the link to fully appreciate this when viewed large. This image appears to be moving in rotations. Of course, it does not. First seen here.

Smoking

If this is true rather than photoshopped it is mindbogglingly stupid. "Half of regular users of cigarettes eventually die." Wow. First seen here.

Condescending

Simply brilliant. First seen here.

Stretching turtle

The turtle is our lucky animal, and this has to be the sweetest picture I have ever encountered of one. First seen here.

Star Wars T-shirts

A great collection of funny Star Wars T-shirts "that even Darth Vader would laugh at". First seen here.

Muslims

It is always fun to see my photographs used (with credit) by others, even though the connection is sometimes a bit of a stretch. I never would have expected this one to end up heading a blog post about muslims working on Friday..... First seen here.

Volcano

I think newsreaders all around the world can sympathize with this... First seen here.

No photographs!

Sometimes you come across really great images on the web, but without information attached to them. I decided to start a new subject for these, titled A is for anonymous. I will include the link where I found the shot, and anybody who can provide more information on these pictures, please leave a comment or mail me. This one brought a smile to my face. First seen here.

Hippo photobomb

The photobomb phenomenon, someone or something intruding into a photograph where they are not meant to be included, is wide-spread on the internet. This is one of the funniest I have seen. First seen here.

Sandy scars

Another magnificent satellite shot. In a small corner of the vast Great Sandy Desert in Western Australia, large sand dunes –the only sand in this desert of scrub and rock — appear as lines stretching from left to right. The light-colored fan shapes are scars from wildfires. First seen here.

Circular art

Ben Heine is an illustrator, portraitist, caricaturist and photographer who currently resides in Brussels. His most recent project is fascinating, although still on the Potpourri side of the fence: creating portraits with nothing but circles, such as Lady Gaga above. Excellent article, including a detailed work-in-progress part. First seen here.

Instant colour

An amazing illustration what your eyes and brain can do together. You need to go to the link for this to work, as blogger does not support animated gifs. There’s a black dot in the center. Stare at the dot till the countdown ends, and the black and white picture should look like it’s in color…until you move your eyes! Recently seen here.

Recycled dress

This is something special alright: a dress made from recycled M&M wrappers. To create the gown, more than 1,800 flowers were individually cut and sewn from 600 M&M wrappers, a process that took over 100 hours of labour. First seen here.

Composer

Sometimes you come across really great images on the web, but without information attached to them. I decided to start a new subject for these, titled A is for anonymous. I will include the link where I found the shot, and anybody who can provide more information on these pictures, please leave a comment or mail me. I love the warped creativity that is behind this image - which is well executed too. First seen here.

Changing the statues

This is the statue version of graffiti: a Spanish artist who goes by the name of SpY dresses up statues in Madrid with items like buckets, paper bags, gas masks and even shining red eyes. Fun stuff. First seen here.

Drowning - it has become a funny topic in the internet age..... First seen here.

Magazine eyescapes

Amazing craft and rather artsy too, but just falling under the Potpourri umrella rather than my art blog. New York artist Nate Page makes these fascinating magazine cut-outs. First seen here.

Mobiloil Arctic

It may have worked in the fifties, but it is odd to see such an advertisement with our present day mind set. They'd be slaughtered now. First seen here.

Rug scale

An ingenious combination of bath rug and built-in scales that also remember your previous weight and if you dare, your ideal weight.... First seen here.

Dolphins? What else?

A fascinating image, because kids really see dolphins and nothing else. Grown-ups have to look a number of times before they spot any dolphin. Recently seen here.

C flat

Another off-beat shot by Spanish photographer Chema Madoz, the Magritte of photography. First seen here.

Horse shoe sculptures

Tom Hill, a talented self-taught sculptor, uses recycled horseshoes to create incredible life-size animal sculptures. I particularly like his turtle shown above. Not fine art, but great stuff for potpourri. First seen here.

Luke...

A wonderful association. Not overly obvious, but once someone points it out to you.... First seen here.

American scream

Dear God, my eyes. It is not as if P.J. Olsson is a nobody, he has toured with the likes of Beth Orton, Rufus Wainright and Placebo. But this cover of his fourth album (American scream, 2007) is up there with the worst of all time. Seen all over the place.

1957 was a good year

Today is my birthday, hooray. As I just found out that Dilbert creator Scott Adams was born in 1957 as well, here is one of the best Dilberts ever. I remember printing this one the day it came out. Retrieved here.

Sword umbrella

How cool would it be to pull this umbrella out when it starts to rain? Even if you are not wearing a metal suit that requires protection from rust? First seen here.

I know the sometimes crude and cruel humour of Cyanide and Happiness is not everyone's taste, but it is absurd little gems like this one that makes me check them out every time. First seen here.

Easter tree

We have a christmas tree, so why not an easter tree? There actually exists one in Saalfeld (Germany). Froh Oster! First seen here.

Easter

Perhaps not the most sensitive post right now, but definitely fitting. First seen here.

Easter candles

We tend to associate candles with christmas, but this set would do very well on the easter breakfast table. First seen here.

Wheels of Mondrian

I was rather surprised to spot this bizarre decoration at the wall of a canal in the Dutch city of Amersfoort, but I love the oringality and the way the baby is looking down at the wheels. Later I found it it is to honour the painter Piet Mondrian who was born here, and who is famous for his rectangular patterns. From here.
