D'ohli

Another Jenny Downing contribution - an ingenious blend of Dali's painting and the Simpsons family. First seen here.

Dog training

This idea definitely went wrong right from the start. I encountered this fun image at Fukung, a site so non-safe for work that I will not link to it.

Ameriquack....

What a wonderful finding, thanks to a buzz by Jenny Downing. Indeed, the Amercain continent is just like a duck when turned sideways. First seen here.

Light my fire

I have posted about the humorous art of Terry Border before here, but a recent Jenny Downing buzz made me decide that these wonderful bent object creations warrant their own entry. First seen here.

Dirty car window art

What an unlikely "canvas" to work with. American artist Scott Wade makes dozens of these from dirty car windows. Not fine art, but amazing stuff. First seen here.

Sancia Health Care Services

I bet that this Chinese guy who was exercising with his ribbons in Shanghai's Fuxing Park did not expect to end up on an American health care web site - via my camera (see here on Flickr for the original shot). First seen here.

How to draw an owl

As simple as can be - clearest drawing instructions in the world. First seen here.

NOW

There's nothing wrong with the organization's name and the clever abbreviation. And at first sight, there is nothing wrong with the logo. Until someone points out that the central O is curiously reminiscent of a flat-iron.... First seen here.

Rainbow rose

An excellent piece of photoshopping, right? Wrong. Believe it or not, this rose is all natural. Well... except that this variation has been grown in coloured water. First seen here.

Vinyl wine rack

Maybe it is because I grew up with vinyl records, but I always have mixed feelings seeing them put to use for other purposes. Still, when they are no longer used for music, you might as well do something useful with them. And a wine rack like this is a perfect application. First seen here.

Christ's sake

Let's face it, I am going to hell anyway whether I post it or not, as I laughed when I first saw it. No idea where this originally came from, it has been on my hard disk for quite a while.

When I'm 64... or 65....

This is a golden oldie, which had me stumped for quite a while. Moving the four pieces of the shape top left around to make the rectangle bottom right seems an easy job. Until you count the squares and find you just created an additional one. Recently seen here.

Cuckoo to you

No, this is not another designer who has gone bonkers - it is actually a new photograph depicting singer/actress Mariel Ann Keitel posing in her costume she will be wearing for the German operetta Schwarzwaldmaedel. First seen here.

This cake eat you will

Awesome, and not just for Star Wars fans. A Yoda cake carefully sculptured with incredible detail. A shame to cut it.... First seen here.

Unilever

Maybe not a logo from hell, but for such a large company as the Anglo-Dutch corporation Unilever (163000 employees, 40 billion euro annual revenue), you would expect something better than this semi-artistic mess. First seen here.

The real Simpsons

Interesting experiment - because you do tend to see the family on the left as real, whereas they obviously are just as much as a cartoon as the Simpsons themselves. First seen here.

Hey Jude flowchart

Wonderful, this mock scientific presentation of one of the less demanding Beatles lyrics. I made an edited version of this song for my MP3 player, cutting about 3 minutes of the end. First seen here.

The most famous and influential people

This is just a small excerpt of a gigantic painting created by three Chinese artists in which they aimed to bring together some of the most famous and influential people of all time. Their choice is often logical, sometimes rather China-biased, and sometimes merely whimsical (Bruce Lee? Really?). Mouse overs help you out to identify those not immediately obvious. As a sampler, an excerpt showing Charlie Chaplin, Henry Ford, Lei Feng (famous in China for his willingness to help others - I have visited his memorial in Fushun) - and the internet lol cat. First seen here.

BP and the truth

Another great example of an older BP slogan that they would rather not see dragged up right now. First seen here.

Moving centre

This is one of the most disturbing optical illusions I have seen. I had to convince myself by the download that this is a jpg file and not an animated gif. Move your head around while looking at this picture, or use the scroll bar on the side of this page and the image will appear to be moving as well. First seen here.

FIFA and the Dutch law

Another example of the use of one of my photographs by others. In this case, an article on the potential conflict of the FIFA and the Dutch government over the special laws and regulations the FIFA want to impose on any country desiring to organize the football world championship. The photograph is my Hup Holland Hup. First seen here.

The Monster Engine Project

This is a fascinating idea, well executed, created by Dave DeVries. The Monster Engine Project is based on the idea of turning six year old children’s drawings into realistic paintings. First seen here.

Winterization

One of the fun things of allowing your photographs to be used for non-commercial applications is that they can turn up in the most unexpected places. When I took this autumn shot of the neighbours' fence, I did not anticipate seeing it used one day on a site with suggestions how to make your house ready for the winter. First seen here.

Three man chess

Chess is the most beautiful game ever invented, but that does not stop people trying to improve it. Another futile attempt is this version for three players. I get a head ache just looking at it. First seen here.

Milk bottle art

Charlotte Hughes-Martin has been engraving milk bottles with various different images and leaving them on random doorsteps. That would be quite a find in front of your door. First seen here.

Reality

Good for a chuckle. I can't remember where I got this from - it has been on my hard disk for a long time already.

A day at the beach

A highly original idea, excellently executed. Made me smile. First seen here.

Pencil tip sculptures

Pencil tip sculptures. Crafts rather than art, but amazing stuff for sure. Fantastic creations by Dalton Ghetti. First seen here.

Newspapers bench

A great alternative to throwing out your old newspapers: have them converted to a bench that would surely make a great conversation piece. Fascinating design by Charles Kaisin. First seen here.

The odd couple

A wonderful combination, this orphaned hippo calf (a tsunami survivor) and its adopted father, a giant male Aldabran tortoise. First seen here.

Colour perception

This type of optical illusion has featured before, but the linked site has a nifty flash feature that allows you to see quickly how you have been fooled. In this case, believe it or not, the brown central square on the top and the bright orange central square at the front are the same colour. First seen here.

You broke my heart

Graffiti from the Ukrainian city of Simferopol - very Banksy like in its imagination, though just a tad less stylishly executed. First seen here.
