Sometimes you come across really great images on the web, but without information attached to them. I decided to start a new subject for these, titled A is for anonymous. I will usually include the link where I found the shot, and anybody who can provide more information on these pictures, please leave a comment or mail me. This is a great photographic play on a famous Escher work. First seen here.
An amazing tour de force (OK, that's enough with the jokes) by the Italian design firm H-57: creating Star Wars most iconic images from fonts. First seen here.
Special indeed, these flower/mushroom inspired chairs designed by Kenneth Cobonpue. A deserved winner of the “Coup de Coeur” Award at Maison et Objet Paris in September 2009. First seen here.
Thanks to a Jenny Downing buzz: a fascinating overview of minimal designs representing various sorts of music. The polka made me smile. First seen here.
A first: a video uploaded to the blog. But this baffling optical illusion does require footage. This little dragon is made out of paper - you simply cut it out and stick it together, and stand it on a table or window ledge. But when you move around, the dragon's head seems to follow you around the room. First seen here.
If I would use cuff-links, these would be very high on my OMG I want those list. Even so, I would not mind getting them, just for fun. First seen here.
It's official. My favourite author, Terry "Discworld" Pratchett, now has a coat of arsms to accompany his knighthood. And of course, he opted for some Discworld references, including the Morpork owl and the Latin motto "Don't fear the reaper". First seen here.
Sheer genius, these signs for male and female toilets, spotted somewhere in Switzerland. If you are offended by this, you are beyond helping. More examples in the link. First seen here.
Further comment is superfluous. Thanks to jenny downing for drawing my attention to this shattering poem by Siegfried Sassoon in her Flickr post lest... . I created this image with a photograph I took of the war monument in the little French village of Lesperon. To all who lost their lives in armed combat: rest in peace.
(Not in the mood for a typical light-hearted Potpourri post today - I duplicate the last of today's posts on this theme in Art for Art's Sake).
A fascinating overview of the 20 most expensive watches in the world, ranging from a mere 590,000 USD to over 25 million USD. I think I'll stick to my 5 $ watch bought in a Beijing market in 2002. First seen here.
The graffiti art of a French artist who calls herself Claire Streetart is taking over the French urban landscapes. Sometimes romantic, sometimes downright provocative, her images of kissing couples are instantly recognizable as her work. First seen here.

This is a very original idea, well executed: the USA states shapes rearranged to form a convincing heart shape. First seen here via StumbleUpon.
One part of me wants to file this under Mixed Nuts, one part under Amazing stuff. It is truly gutsy to demand your headstone to be based on the famous Stones icon. But whether those left behind agree is not quite clear. First seen here.
Have a look at the picture above. On the left is Dr Angry, and on the right is Mr Calm. Now, back away from your computer screen. This effect will work at different distances for different people, but you should see the two characters swap over...! As you come closer to the screen again, they revert to their original characters. Spooky as hell. First seen here.
It's a fun idea, and very well executed - even though I would not risk my own keyboard for it. First seen on Fukung, a site too unsafe for work to link to.
It was not a great logo to start with, but the real pain came for the Wisconsin Tourism Federation when their acronym (dating back to 1979) happened to become identical to one of the most used internet slangs. They eventually had to change their name to the Tourism Federation of Wisconsin. First seen here.
Using an unexpected material to paint on will usually make you end up here rather than in ym art blog. A case in point is the very crafty work of Julie Thompson, who uses feathers instead of canvas. First seen here.
Another somewhat unexpected use of one of my shots. The site Eat your career chose this one as illustration of their article on what to do when you are stressed at work and quitting really isn’t an option. First seen here.
I started my main blog, Art for Art's sake, in 2006, to share my taste in photography, fine arts, architecture and music. In 2009, I started this counterpart blog, Art's Potpourri, as an outlet for other interesting matter and some chatter, which do not quite fit in the main blog.

Last December, Helen Frankenthaler (1928-2011) passed away (see a previous blog
