Dumpr-r-r-r-r-r-r-r

A bit of fun I had with the on-line photo fun site dumpr, creating what we Dutch call a Droste effect with repeatedly inserting the same image in a museum setting.

Royal Wedding

Of all the memorabilia for the British royal wedding that one sees at the internet, this one really stood out. A commemorative stamp issued by the tiny Pacific island of Niue. The obvious controversy is the perforation smack inbetween the happy couple, but also the detail that the male stamp is worth more than the female is not very 21st century. First seen here.

More zebrantics

It's probably been done before, but I had not seen it until just now. First seen here.

Zebraez

Just for fun indeed, a lovely picture of two zebra's taken at exactly the right time and angle. First seen here.

Oedipus Airlines

I find the tag line more than a little bit disturbing, especially since the stewardess depicted is a very, VERY attractive girl. First seen here.

Umbrella

One of the most original and beautiful pieces of graffiti I have seen for a long time. First seen here.

Peanuts - in eggs

Another egg-themed post to round off the Easter weekend. John Lamouranne creates all kinds of scenes from pop culture using eggs and very little else. This one appealed to me - I have always liked the Peanuts gang. First seen here.

Eggshellland

A suitable post for Easter Sunday. Every year, Ron and Betty Manolio, from Lyndhurst, Ohio, create a set of intricate eggshell mosaics right on their front lawn. It all started back in 1957, when Ron’s mother used 750 colored eggshells to make a cross on her lawn, and Ron and his wife carried on the tradition, coming up with different themes and complex mosaics each year after that. First seen here, image by Yvonne in Willowick Ohio.

Happy Easter

A fun advertisement for the Cologne Zoo, at an appropriate moment. Happy Easter all! First seen here.

Lithuania's Hill of crosses

An appropriate post for Good Friday. What a fascinating place with a fascinating history. Covered with over 100,000 crosses of different sizes, Lithuania’s Hill of Crosses is both a symbol of the country’s nationalism and an international pilgrimage site. Dating back originally to 1831, it has been destroyed and reconstructed several times - click the link to read the history. First seen here; picture by Tania Ho.

Soap cake

Can I eat that? I'd like to see you try. And if you do, the results will be revealed in the next episode of.... Soap! Thanks to Yorkshire Soap Co. who produce bathing soaps that look like delicious cakes. First seen here.

A hilarious moment and a damn good photograph as well. First seen here.

Nuclear energy

A suitable photoshopped image now that the recent events in Japan have once more ignited the old nuclear energy yes/no debate. Maybe"Just for fun" is a bit frivolous, but I could not find a better category. First seen here.

Another must have gadget for an amateur photographer like myself: a fully functional USB stick in the shape of a Canon camera, courtesy of Paradox Media. First seen here.

Land of the free

This is the new US postage stamp in honour of the 125th anniversary of the world famous New York Statue of Liberty. Only after three billion of them ahd been printed, someone found out that the picture is actually of a copy located in las Vegas. Ouch. First seen here.

Googled: shanghai french park

Flickr gives you a statistics option that shows you from which link people access your shots. I am always curious, so I usually check, especially when it is from Google images. I will be posting some of the Google image searches where one or more of my shots actually ended up on the front page. For this post, I take the search term shanghai french park, which even shows three shots of mine on page one. First seen here.

Cocooned

An unexpected side-effect of the flooding in parts of Pakistan last year has been that millions of spiders were driven up into the trees to escape the rising flood waters. Because of the scale of the flooding and the fact that the water has taken so long to recede, spiders have built massive webs on trees turning them into ghostly cocoons. Nightmares guaranteed. 3D Chess board

A first: a double theme post in my two main blogs today, both chess related. This chess set is actually straightforward, except that the board comes in a 3D shape. In theory it should not affect play, in practice I am not so sure. Also check out the beautiful stylistic chess set posted in Art for Art's sake. First seen here.

Something fishy

Fish are probably not the first (or second or third) class of animals you would associated with the term "cute". But I think this little guy is adorable. First seen here.

DUCK!

Chinese workers are famous for being able to sleep anywhere any time. Like this farm hand in Jiaxing amidts countless ducklings. First seen here.

Bruckner's Fifth

As a photograph, there is nothing wrong with this shot of a horse rider and steam train. It is actually quite fun. But what on earth does this have to do with the majestic music of Anton Bruckner?? Someone really dropped the ball here at the Valois label. First seen here.

Unless you are extremely afraid of octopuses, this would be a really great mug to add to your collection. Brilliant design, for sure. First seen here.

The most popular post

Blogger is providing detailed statistics for my blogs since July 2010. These data show that the post above on finger monkeys is the most frequently seen. Whereas the average view per post is around 40, this one scored 800 visits in said time frame. No idea why. First seen here.

Although film rolls are a thing of the past, it is still fun to see their shape used in a special way, like this clock. First seen here.

April Fools

One of the best cartoons on today's main theme that I have encountered.... I had prepared my own April Fools post at Art for Art's Sake, but in the end decided not to go through with it. First seen here.
