Parking ticket for art

When Austrian artist Erwin Wurm installed one of his famous bent car sculptures in the German city of Karlsruhe, I expect the last thing on his mind was that he would get a parking ticket. Yet he did. First seen here.

Where there is smoke....

Another creative use of small plastic figurines in a setting that belies their size. I never get tired of these. First seen here.

Bridge bookshelf

As readers of my main blog know, I love modern bridges. And I love books. Well, designer Robby Cuthbert combined modern suspension bridge design and book shelves into one. I'd love to own a few of these. First seen here.

A show of hands

Love it or hate it. Count me in the former category. Encountered this on Fukung, no idea who created this beautiful animated gif.

Butcher Billy Bullies Banksy

Butcher Billy Bullies Banksy is an ongoing street art project by Brazilian artist Butcher Billy. He takes iconic Banksy images and recreates them with cartoon figures in the lead role, like Rosie from the Jetsons. Clever and fun. First seen here.

Owls are among the most photogenic of animals - and certainly when they end up in situations like these. First seen here.

Apparently this is a real shot, not Photoshopped. The forced perspective tricks your mind in seeing the dog as much larger than the two girls. First seen here.

Steampunk insectoid junkbots

Actually... I want one of these. Amazing steampunk style insect sculptures made from spent ammunition. Marvelous craftsmanship and imagination by Tom Hardwidge. First seen here.

Planetary glass set

Not just for space enthusiasts. This set of ten glasses based on the planets (with the sun and Pluto thrown in for good measure) is really special. First seen here.

This incredible Victorian house is constructed out of over 110,000 Lego pieces - without any alterations. A real tour de force by Mike Boyle. First seen here.

Honest company slogans

The linked site gives a whole series of these, but I liked the Louis Vutton one in  particular. First seen here.

Green bean sawmill

Another excellent use of the combination of food and plastic figurines to produce a believable miniature scene. This one was once more created by Christopher Boffoli. First seen here.

Handy selfie stick

The selfie stick is quickly becoming notorious, and has already been banned from several venues. Here we have a mixed nuts variation on the theme: the bizarre selfie-hand designed by artists Justin Crowe and Aric Snee, which suggests that you are holding someone's hand in the picture. First seen here.

The real Shrek

Taken from a post on fictional characters based on real people, this one surprised me. Turns out that the green ogre Shrek is based on an actual person, pro-wrestler Maurice Tillet. First seen here.

The sculptures of Japanese artist Yoshitoshi Kanemaki, carved out of wood and hand painted, are truly remarkable. More examples in the link. First seen here.

A perfect rendition of the typical company structure. All too recognizable. Don't know where I found this, it has been on my hard disk for a while.

Grove's tasteless chill tonic

Tasteless indeed. I can't even begin to imagine why this is supposed to increase the sales of this product. The mind boggles. First seen here.

The dark side

If you can take your eyes of the admittedly very attractive model, her swimsuit is a beautiful mix of Pink Floyd and Star Wars iconic images. First seen here.

Apple Art

It is "just" an apple, and even not extremely fancy carving, but what a great effect this would make on your dinner table. A pity to eat it actually. First seen here.

Wanted: Robin

A slight variation on the usual Plastic People shots: French artist Samsofy uses Lego figurines instead of the more human-like figurines that we have become used to. In this one, the effect is still fun though. First seen here.

I came across this shot a few years ago, and found it endearing. Possibly because I would date it in my own childhood (around 1960), and because it shows a different time, when life was more simple and even an examination on the street provided entertainment for school children. First seen here.

It's not often that a design award goes to a new musical instrument, but Iranian designer Aidin Ardjomandi received one for his brand new celloridoo, a blend of a cello and didgeridoo. The link also provides some soundbites. Interesting! First seen here.
